One of the Borno government vehicles in Baga.
Governor of Borno state, Babagana Zulum was not in the convoy that was ambushed last Friday.
It has been erroneously reported by some medium that the governor was in the convoy during the attack. That was wrong.
The governor flew to Baga on that day at 11am and arrived at about 12pm.
The ambushed convoy, was of a security escort team (backup) which left Monguno, 35km away, for Baga, at about 1pm.
The last convoy were attack at about 2pm long after the governor had arrived Baga and performed first Jummat prayer to be held in the town in about 2 years.
The governor was, however, in the convoy when the second ambush happened on Sunday, immediately after he departed Baga. It was near KrossKauwa village. No life was lost except an injury sustained by a soldier in a gun truck. Many vehicle either escaped with shattered windscreen or bullets pierced bodies and flat tyres.
It was also a fact that Governor Zulum also resisted all attempts to force his to take a chopper from Monguno town to Maiduguri especially when a rumor went rife that there was another suspected plan to attack the convoy yet again.
It was a fact that Governor Zulum drove by road from Monguno to Maiduguri amidst tight security while a force jets and fighter choppers hovered above the convoy all the way.
